MLK’s nephew: Trump isn’t racist, just ‘racially ignorant’
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s nephew says President Trump is “racially ignorant” — but not “a racist.”
“I don’t think Present Trump is a racist in the traditional sense as we know in this country,” Issac Newton Farris Jr., who stood by the president’s side Friday as he signed a proclamation honoring the late civil rights leader, told CNN afterwards.
“I think President Trump is racially ignorant and racially uninformed. But I don’t think he is a racist in the traditional sense.”
Asked what King would have thought of the president referring to African nations as “shithole countries,” Farris told CNN that he believes his uncle would have disapproved.
Farris also says Trump told him during a meeting after the event: “I’m not the person that the media is making me out to be.”
