Mom dies two days after flu diagnosis

A Massachusetts mom of two died within 48 hours of getting diagnosed with the flu, according to her family.

Jenny Ching, 51, mistook her flu symptoms last week for a bad cold before she visited a hospital, news station WTIC reported.

After she was admitted, Ching’s family said complications from the flu caused her health to rapidly decline.

“She had the flu and she also developed a bacterial infection,” her husband Matt Ching told news station WCVB. “It was really severe and caused severe pneumonia.”

The mom, who was from Needham, died on Jan. 5.

“I can’t believe it because she was so healthy,” Raymond So, the owner of New Garden restaurant where she worked, told WTIC.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health said there have been around four times more laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza than the previous year, according to Boston.com.

Health officials said the flu season across the US is becoming one of the most severe in history.

“We are currently in the midst of a very active flu season with much of the nation experiencing widespread and intense activity,” CDC Director Brenda Fitzgerald told the NPR.
