Tough elderly woman fights off bozo trying to take her purse
A tough-as-nails 80-year-old woman fought back against a thug who tried to snatch her purse — clutching it with an iron grip as he dragged her across an Upper East Side building entrance, a stunning police video revealed Friday.
Dressed in black, the thief is shown stalking Erunna Walowit, who was carrying two bags as she hobbled into the building on East 88th Street and First Avenue on Tuesday night.
The crook crept up behind the little old lady and tried to rip a large brown purse from her right arm — but she refused to let go even as he knocked her down and pulled her through a hallway towards the foyer of the building.
The gutsy gal held on for more than 10 seconds — and screamed so loudly a neighbor rushed to her aid, scaring off the thief, according to police.
The crook and an accomplice, who was outside keeping a lookout, fled empty-handed at around 8:20 p.m., police said.
Neighbors called the octogenarian badass “spunky” and inspiring.
“Good for her for fighting them off,” said Juhi Patel, 26, a law student.
Cops say the two muggers are also wanted for robbing a 23-year-old woman in the same area on Dec. 15.
Walowit isn’t the only tough old broad who has scared off a purse snatcher. In September 2016, 90-year-old Gina Zuckerman, of the West Village, stood her ground against a female purse bandit.
