Jogger who trashed homeless man’s belongings arrested

The jogger caught on camera tossing a homeless man’s belongings into a lake was arrested – but for snatching a cellphone out of someone’s hand in a different incident, according to local reports.

Henry William Sintay was filmed throwing a vagrant’s encampment into Lake Merritt in Oakland, Calif., on Friday while he was out on a jog. In a bizarre turn of events, he returned to the scene on Saturday and waded in shallow water to pull some of the homeless man’s belongings from the lake, The Mercury News reported.

A man named Matt Nelson approached him and confronted him on camera about his actions the previous day, according to footage Nelson posted of the interaction on Facebook.

In the Facebook Live video, Sintay can be seen climbing out of the water and saying he is “trying to do the right f—ing thing” by cleaning up the lake. “I don’t want to pollute the lake,” he says. “Do you?”

As Nelson and others ask Sintay questions, the jogger steps forward and snatches the cellphone Nelson was using to film the interaction.

“Are you out of your mind?” Nelson says as the men wrestle and yell at each other.

Sintay was arrested by Oakland Police Monday on robbery charges and is being held on $100,000 bail at the Santa Rita Jail.

Since the video of the Friday incident was posted online, there has been an outpouring of support from the community for the homeless man, identified as Greg Markson, who goes by the nickname Drew.

Over $10,000 has been raised through GoFundMe to help him get new clothing, shoes and bedding.
